The Big Day!
Hello, Lancers! Welcome to Umbra, and it's so wonderful to see you all here! I'm FoxScribe (or Satellite, on Discord)2571, and this release-into-the-wild moment has been a year or so of dev time. A perfect end-of-year release window, eh? That said, I wanted to put out a few acknowledgements, walk you through my process, and talk about the big ol' "What now?" question that plagues devs of every kind of project.
- Acknowlegdements!
- RedXiya (or RedXi, on itch.io), for being the friend to convince me to take a simple four-frame concept package and enable my scope creep into this big beautiful mistake that people tell me they like. Wouldn't trade your creative advice, comfort when balancing grows too much, or friendship for the world.
- BreeBird, for the introduction of the Coyote, constant late-night calls on the project, forgiving lease on friendship, and patience while I figured out what making a frame in collaboration truly felt like. Thank you for keeping my project ever-more interesting, and never forget the joy of Surprise.
- Bargonauts, for the worldbuilding questions I'd seem to always forget myself, the GMS helicopter and tank, and the ideas for more work to come. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
- PersonMan_Reborn for the reassurance, balancing help, and saving grace of design. Pick up the hammer and forge a future, my friend!
- CHARON for the steady stream of TRIC operatives, The concept for the Eris (where we thought a TOW missile would be hilarious if shoulder-fired), and the regular decompression time. Chivalry isn't dead, sir Gawain.
- The entire cast of Syents and Synners, for being an awesome soundboard for my wacko concepts that made absolutely no reasonable sense and should have earned me a shoe to the face.
- Olo, The Little DM That Could, and everyone else who's ever believed in this endeavor. You're the reason I try and make this all worthwhile.
All told, so many people got me here, but the project itself is mostly the result of what can only be described as "12 months of absolute mania". I've got no real workflow, I study aerospace engineering at Uni. I'm not claiming to make this my entire after-studying life (that would be sleeping, or at least trying to), and I have only gotten to this point because of passion alone. So, from here on out, expect updates to be sporadic in both content and timelline. It could be anything from several new frames, the full lore PDF, mech art, or just a few changed lines on a bit of flavor text. Please, be patient with me while I figure it out.
So... What's the future looking like for Umbra?
Bright! I've been working on lore for that same year and have about 45 pages of nothing but surface-level lore relevant to locations, prominent figures, and how to play as a few separate factions! That might be the next part of this. Alternatively, it could be the talents, perhaps the last few frames, or even the GM-facing side of things, featuring everything from fanatics to just- just Calibans but bigger. We'll have to see.
Getting here has been a wild ride, and we're not done yet. Thank you for your help and time,
Your resident Missile Junkie.
